About This Scholarship

The GBF-Gokongwei Group STEM Scholarship for Excellence caters to students who have a good academic track record, are involved in extracurricular activities, have displayed leadership in their communities, and would like to pursue a college education in a STEM course, but are financially not capable of supporting their education.

Yes, instead of the certificate for registration, you will be required to submit a letter of intent to apply/enroll and your proof of application to at least one university (see the documentary requirements section for the template)

What Are The Documents Required For STEM Scholarship?

Proof of Academic Standing
For incoming college students/graduating senior high school students (1st year college AY 2024-2025) Certified True Copy of Grades – Grade 11 and 12 report card or Form 137
Batch ranking certificate from Grade 12 (Grade 11 ranking certificate if not available)

Certified True Copy of Grades from the past 2 consecutive semesters (1st term AY 23-24 and Grade 11 grades)

As an applicant, do I need to submit a portfolio?

  • Yes, a portfolio is required as part of the GBF-GG STEM SFE application process whether or not you are a member of a club or an organization. The portfolio seeks to measure the applicant’s service-orientedness.

For Senior High School graduates, do I submit batch ranking from the whole high
school batch or just my ranking from among the SHS strand?

  • Senior High School graduates shall submit their batch ranking among their strand batch (e.g. STEM, ABM, etc.). If Grade 12 ranking is not available yet, you may submit your Grade 11 ranking certificate.

What is a BIR Tax Exemption Certificate and where can I request this certificate? Who is eligible to request this certificate?

  • A Certificate of Tax Exemption (CTE) is issued to individuals or organizations who are exempt from paying taxes such as individuals with No Income, Minimum Wage Earners, and Low-Taxable-Income Earners. To apply, visit the Revenue District Office (RDO) (usually situated in your city/municipal hall) having jurisdiction over your residence. Can the Applicant’s use the grant amount for expenses other than the school tuition?

  • Yes, the applicant’s may use the grant amount for any education-related expense. This may include books, school projects, food, transportation, and dormitory expenses

As a applicant’s, do I have to submit a liquidation report of the grant I received?

  • No, the appliacant just needs to submit the required retention requirements, such as a report card, a good moral certificate, and proof of enrollment to be retained in the program

Is On-the-Job Training included in STEM Scholarship for Excellence ?

  • Yes, an internship opportunity in a Gokongwei group company is one of the program benefits

Is employment after graduation a benefit of the scholarship program?

  • Yes, an opportunity to work in the Gokongwei group is part of the design of the program. The appliant’s are required to work in the partner business unit equivalent to 1 year for every year the scholar has been a recipient of the program (maximum of 2 years only).

Is this applicable to a second degree in college?

  • No, this only applies to a student’s first bachelor’s degree

Can GBF support further studies after College graduation?

  • Currently, the scholarship supports a bachelor’s degree only

Eligibility Requirements

Is there a minimum GWA required to apply?

  • One of the eligibility requirements is to have at least a GWA of 2.0 or 85%

Can those with failed grades in collegeand high school still to apply?

  • No, all scholar’s must have no failed, dropped, or incomplete subject/s for the entirety of their college/high school years.

Can i apply if I already have an existing scholarship from another institution or company?

  • For Scholar’s with other scholarships, the application is subject to evaluation. Qualified candidates who do not have any other scholarships are usually prioritized

What is STEM Scholarship for Excellence?

  • It is a scholarship program that provides financial assistance to high-potential but financially challenged college students taking STEM courses

Who are eligible to apply for STEM Scholarship for Excellence? 

  • College students who are enrolled or to enroll in selected STEM courses and in need of financial assistance are eligible to apply (strong preference for incoming 1st and 2nd year). Incoming college applicants must belong to the Top 10% of their high school batch

Where can I access the application form ?

  • The last day for application is on April 30, 2024, 11:59 PM

Can I join a program orientation to learn more about the scholarship?

How many scholarship slots are available for AY 2024-2025?

  • 40 slots only

Application Process

What are the steps in the application process?

  • Accomplishment of online application form and submission and documentary requirements
  • Preliminary screening for eligibility check
  • Live online essay exam and portfolio evaluation
  • Panel Interview
  • Background Investigation

Is there an examination after submitting the requirements?

  • A live online essay examination and interviews will be conducted for successful applicants who will progress to the next phase of the application process

What is the timeline for the entire process, from application to admission?

  • Applicants can expect the final result two months after the deadline for submission. Target release of the announcement is June 14, 2024

How will I know if my application is approved?

  • Scholar’s will receive updates via email once they are eligible to proceed to the next phase of the process. Applicants who do not qualify will also receive a notification.

Will I get an update on every phase of the application?

  • Yes, you shall receive timely updates regarding your application

Retention Scholarship

  • What are the eligibility requirements for retention to the scholarship?
  • Excellent academic standing with a minimum GWA of 80%
  • Exemplifies good moral character
  • Currently enrolled in his/her university
